We get lots of calls and e-mails from people who are not quite sure which NYI Course is best for them. Our three study-at-home programs are designed for different types of photographers. Here are some points to consider if you're not sure which NYI Course is right for you.

NYI Complete Course in Professional Photography is perfect for everyone who is serious about pursuing their interest in photography. About half of the Professional Course students plan to begin a new career, while the other half are serious amateurs who want to learn how to take professional-looking photographs, and study with leaders in the field. The NYI Complete Course in Professional Photography has been completely revised in the past year and includes everything you need to know about digital photography and traditional film-based work. This is our most popular Course, and offers students the quintessential NYI experience.
NYI Digital Photography: Adobe™ Photoshop™ for Photographers primarily deals with Adobe Photoshop - although it also includes a number of photography lessons. Students in this NYI Course must have a computer with a full version of Adobe Photoshop (you cannot complete this Course using the pared-down Adobe Photoshop Elements program). Our Photoshop for Photographers Course is designed to give photographers the digital skills that are necessary in today's workplace - whether they are using film or digital cameras. In addition to learning Photoshop, you learn about scanning, lighting, camera functions and the business of photography.

The NYI Short Course: Fundamentals of Digital Photography is designed for new owners of digital SLRs and other high-performance digital cameras who want to learn how to get the most from their cameras. It covers all the practical, basic information that beginners need to know in order to take beautiful photographs and take control of the camera. You'll learn how to use shutter and aperture priority, as well as how to get the right exposure, and understand your camera's histogram.
If you're just getting started, the Short Course: Fundamentals of Digital Photography may be enough for you at this time.
If you know you're serious about photography, taking the NYI Professional Course is probably the best way to go, since it covers almost everything in the Short Course and contains much, much more as well. As we've noted, it's our most popular course. You'll learn how both digital and film photography function, and a great deal about the business of photography.

NYI's Digital Photography: Photoshop for Photographers is designed for the person who needs to master Adobe Photoshop for personal or professional reasons. When you're ready for thorough training in Photoshop, this is the course you'll want to take.
