NYIP On Location: Iran ProtestAs part of the NYIP On Location videos, this is the first installment of an upcoming series that shows photographers at work. The series is designed to demonstrate to NYI students and other interested photographers the best way to handle different types of situations. During this fall's United Nations General Assembly, many different protests took place in the blocks surrounding the United Nations and NYI World Headquarters. NYI Student Advisor Chris Corradino went out to photograph a particularly loud and colorful demonstration against the current Iran regime. To create the picture story that appears at the end of the video, Chris carried not only a digital SLR but also a compact Zoom digital audio recorder. This video was shot on a Flip camcorder by NYI Web Developer and Multi-media Specialist Alex Baker. As Chris stresses in the video, when covering an event such as this, it's important for the photojournalist to move carefully through the crowd and remain impartial to the theme of the demonstration. It's the job of the journalist to remain impartial, observe the events, possibly ask questions, and record what happens. |
